1968 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 for sale on BaT Auctions – ending February 10 (Lot #229,048)

This 1968 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 is one of approximately 800 examples built over just over three years of production. Chassis 11705 was sold new through Motor S.A.S. di Carla Allegretti in Rome, Italy, and was later imported to the US in 1973. It underwent a color change from blue to red in addition to mechanical work as part of a refurbishment completed circa 2006. Power is provided by a 4.4-liter Colombo V12 that breathes through triple Weber carburetors, while shifting is through a five-speed manual transmission linked with a limited-slip differential. The car wears yellow-lens fog lamps and is equipped with a four-wheel independent suspension, power-assisted steering, servo-assisted ventilated disc brakes, and 15″ Borrani knock-off wire wheels. Inside, 2+2 seating trimmed in beige Connolly leather is accompanied by a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Veglia Borletti instrumentation, and a Becker push-button radio. Work following the current owner’s acquisition in 2019 is said to have involved servicing the air conditioning system. This 365 GT 2+2 is now offered on dealer consignment by the selling dealer—a BaT Local Partner—with a Marcel Massini report, an owner’s manual, vehicle literature, a tool kit, spare parts, and a New York State registration listing the car as a 1969 model.

The 365 GT 2+2 model was introduced at the 1967 Paris Motor Show featuring Pininfarina coachwork with an overall length of almost five meters. This example underwent a color change from blue to red as part of the aforementioned refurbishment completed around 2006. It features split front bumpers with integrated turn signals as well as a wraparound rear bumper with black overriders. Yellow-lens fog lamps have been added up front, and further details include a retractable antenna, dual side mirrors, and polished quad exhaust outlets.

The first Ferrari 2+2 offered with an independent rear suspension, the 365 GT featured a Tipo 591 tubular steel chassis that retained the 2,650mm wheelbase of the outgoing 330 GT but featured a wider track and an upgraded twin-circuit braking system with three-piston calipers and ventilated discs at all four corners. Power-assisted steering was also equipped from the factory. This 365 GT rides on 15″ Borrani knock-off wire wheels mounted with 215/70 Michelin XWX tires.

Additional gauges for fuel level and amperage flank the clock in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 12k kilometers (~7k miles), approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership.
