Are we heading toward a 2026 “Pyjama Party”? The driver backlash to the new regs is getting loud

The way drivers have been talking about the 2026 regs lately feel more serious than the usual early complaints we heard during preseason testing. It is starting to remind me a bit of we saw at the South African Grand Prix in 1982 ,obviously not the same situation, but similar energy. Main issues keep coming up are :

  • The heavy energy management (50/50 hybrid split) , lots of lifting and coasting, some drivers saying it doesn’t feel like proper racing
  • Superclipping ,with cars dropping speed on straights, which makes overtakes feel a bit artificial like some drivers have voiced.
  • Safety concerns especially after Bearman’s crash yesterday, with big speed differences between these cars.
  • General feel of the car. Multiple drivers are saying they’re just not that enjoyable to drive

Drivers like Hamilton, Verstappen ,Norris , Alonso ,Sainz have been pretty open about it, and a lot of others are basically saying the same thing.I'm not saying we’re getting a literal “pyjama party” protest because I know modern F1 probably wouldn’t never allow that anyway but if the concerns and criticisms keep building, could we see some kind of collective pushback?
