Bike EXIF | Top 10 Custom Motorcycles from March ’25

As we crest the hill of another week and look toward the weekend’s horizon, it’s time to raid the archives for our latest Flashback Friday. This week, we’re winding the clock back to March 2025, a month that saw Bike EXIF trade in high-concept futurism for a masterclass in ‘Newstalgia.’ From Australian beach racers with a secret modern heart to a supercharged British triple that redefines ‘active aero,’ the builders of 2025 were obsessed with bridging the gap between heritage and high performance.

In this retrospective, we’re revisiting the ten machines that set our servers on fire exactly one year ago. You’ll find a heavy lean toward the ‘Big Single’ and the ‘Parallel Twin,’ but with engineering twists that make the factory originals look like unfinished sketches. Whether it’s a patina-dripping Ducati or a Royal Enfield with a girder fork, these builds prove that the ‘old school’ is a school that never goes out of session.

Let’s dive into the top 10 custom motorcycles from March 2025.

Harley-Davidson Softail beach racer by Gasoline Motor Co.

Harley-Davidson ‘Wildwood Beach Racer’ by Gasoline Motor Co.

The Race of Gentlemen is usually a sanctuary for pre-war steel, but Sydney-based Gasoline Motor Co. decided to crash the party with a ringer. At first glance, this build is a dead ringer for a 1930s beach racer, but underneath the ‘pre-aged’ livery beats a modern Milwaukee-Eight Softail heart. It’s a masterclass in visual deception, utilizing a hand-fabricated rigid tail section and a classic springer fork to erase the donor’s 21st-century geometry.

The engineering highlight is the ‘stealth’ braking system developed with Beringer. Up front, impossibly compact twin discs match the hub diameter to maintain a vintage profile, while the rear brake hides behind the sprocket to mimic a drum hub. To complete the illusion, Gasoline dressed the contemporary V-twin in finned engine covers and an Art Deco teardrop air filter, ensuring the modern powerplant doesn’t ruin the 1920s vibes.

Finished with a horse-saddler-stitched leather seat and hand-shaped twin fuel tanks inspired by old Knuckleheads, the ‘Wildwood’ manages to avoid the “faux-patina” trap. It isn’t just a museum piece; with its 16-inch Allstate tires and ceramic-coated pipes, it’s a daily runner that looks like it just rolled off the sands of Wildwood, New Jersey, after a 90-year nap. 1979 BMW R65 bobber by Zen Motorcycles

BMW R65 Bobber by Zen Motorcycles

Affectionately nicknamed ‘Linda,’ this 1979 BMW R65 bobber is the result of what happens when a “Harley guy” is given the keys to a Bavarian airhead. Built by Zen Motorcycles’ apprentice Joel under the guidance of co-founder Bruce Crerar, the bike shuns the ubiquitous cafe racer trend in favor of a minimalist, industrial bobber aesthetic. The core of the build is a de-tabbed frame and a clever “springer” seat mount fabricated from a repurposed Royal Enfield fork tube.

The silhouette was radically transformed by ditching the iconic BMW slab tank for a narrow Kawasaki KZ unit, painted in a refreshing, leafy green. The exhaust headers were inverted to run backward, a rare sight on airheads, with the help of Edi Buffon from Machine1867, who tucked the pipes neatly under the seat. The result is a bike that feels remarkably narrow and purposeful, a far cry from the bulky touring machines of the late 70s.

Rolling on classic snowflake rims wrapped in Firestone Deluxe Champion rubber, ‘Linda’ is packed with thoughtful touches like mesh-covered velocity stacks and peanut-style valve covers. While the build was a pet project that lived on the back burner for months, the final product is a testament to the versatility of the R65 platform. [MORE]

Custom Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 by Purpose Built Moto

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 ‘Delta’ by Purpose Built Moto

When Royal Enfield commissions a build, the expectations are stratospheric, and Purpose Built Moto’s Tom Gilroy responded with ‘Delta.’ This isn’t just a customization; it’s a complete reimagining of the 650 parallel twin as a 1940s “Flying Flea” for the modern era. The highlight is the one-off girder fork, digitally designed and 3D-printed before being sand-bent and welded into a functional piece of mechanical art.

The frame was altered, converting the rear from a twin-shock setup to a hidden mono-shock using a Nitron unit, giving the illusion of a hardtail. PBM even turned the front frame rails into an oil cooler, adding lath-turned fins to the tubes to handle the heat while maintaining a mid-century look. The bike rolls on 23-inch front and 19-inch rear clincher rims, giving it the spindly, tall-wheeled stance of a pre-war racer.

The details are equally obsessive: a hand-shifter system with a leather-trimmed knob, spun brass velocity stacks created in a 50-year-old Athens workshop, and a cherry-red leather seat. Painted in gloss black with gold leaf by Popbang Classics, ‘Delta’ is a visceral, raw ride that trades modern ease for “constant feedback” and vintage ergonomics. [MORE]

BMW R18 sidecar rig by Précision Side-Cars

BMW R18 Sidecar by Alternative Side-Car

To celebrate the 90th anniversary of Précision Side-Cars, the French team at Alternative Side-Car paired a modern BMW R18 ‘100 Years’ edition with a Précision Gran’Large bucket. The goal was factory-level integration, and they achieved it through 150 hours of bespoke fabrication in Paris. The sidecar’s swooping fuselage mirrors the R18’s iconic black-and-chrome livery so perfectly that it looks like it was penned by BMW’s own designers.

The rig is as functional as it is beautiful, featuring a custom wheel that replicates the R18’s spokes and a Brembo disc brake linked to the bike’s rear pedal. A vintage British sports car windscreen and leather luggage straps add to the “picnic in the countryside” vibe. Perhaps most impressively, the entire 1,803 cc rig can be detached in an hour, allowing the R18 to return to its solo-cruiser duties. [MORE]

Supercharged Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR by Thornton Hundred

Supercharged Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR by Thornton Hundred

Jody Millhouse doesn’t do subtle. His team at Thornton Hundred took a Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR and turned it into a 230-horsepower drift monster. The heart of the build is a Rotrex C30 supercharger, but the real wizardry is ‘THAI’, a proprietary A.I. system that controls an active aero package. 3D-printed winglets on the fairing adjust their angle in real-time based on pitch, yaw, and throttle input to keep the bike pinned.

To handle the massive power, the team fabricated a billet aluminum swingarm that doubles as a reservoir for a water-methanol injection system. The front brakes were upgraded with vented titanium pistons and carbon cooling ducts to prevent the ceramic pads from melting under load. Despite the supercharger and aero tech, the bike weighs 20 pounds less than stock, thanks to wall-to-wall carbon fiber and Rotobox wheels. [MORE]

Yamaha Ténéré 700 by Faber Studio x Rough Crafts from the Speed and Crafts competition

Yamaha Ténéré 700 Flat Tracker by Rough Crafts

Winston Yeh of Rough Crafts is famous for his “dark” Harleys, but for this project, he looked toward a Yamaha YZ450F race bike for inspiration. By grafting a YZ450F aluminum subframe onto a Ténéré 700 mainframe, Winston and Faber Studio created a 74-horsepower twin-cylinder flat tracker. The bike weighs a scant 348 lbs fully fueled, a massive reduction from the stock adventure bike’s heft.

The build utilizes high-end supermoto triple clamps, Öhlins suspension, and Roland Sands Design Hammer wheels. An asymmetrical exhaust system snaking into a YZ tail cowl gives the T7 a nimble, upright silhouette perfect for carving through Taipei traffic. It’s a “Rough Crafts” build in spirit, but its kinetic graphics and dirt-track stance prove Winston can master any geometry he touches. [MORE]

Harley Low Rider S chopper by NamiXII Design

Harley-Davidson Low Rider S ‘Purple Haze’ by NamiXII Design

Taiwanese builder Fo Huang took a contemporary 117 ci Low Rider S and repackaged it as a ‘Frisco-style’ performance chopper. The bike’s stance was set by extending the inverted forks by four inches over stock length and fitting a 21-inch Lyndall forged wheel up front. The highlight, however, is the 3D lightning bolt motif on the fuel tank, created by welding metal ridges directly to the steel before painting.

The ‘Purple Haze’ nickname comes from the mind-bending color-shift paint that transitions from blue to purple under the light. Fo balanced the Stage 1 engine performance with high-end Brembo CVO calipers and Kraus risers. It’s a neo-retro chopper that manages to look compact and muscular while retaining the reliable, hoot-to-ride chassis of the modern Softail. [MORE]

Harley Sportster chopper by Rough Crafts

Harley Sportster ‘Mad Raider’ by Rough Crafts

Breaking his own “all-black” rule, Winston Yeh delivered the ‘Mad Raider’—a silver, old-school chopper based on a 2020 Sportster Forty-Eight. The build features a Gasbox hardtail frame and a bespoke girder fork designed in CAD to mimic vintage boxed-in sheet metal units. Despite the traditional chopper rake, Winston couldn’t resist adding an Öhlins shock to the girder for a modern performance twist.

The bike rolls on five-spoke Invader hoops and features a scalloped fuel tank that has become a Rough Crafts signature. By mixing KustomTech vintage-style controls with a modern Motogadget speedo hidden under the tank, Winston proves he can satisfy the new critics while maintaining his high-end, precise finish. Ducati 250 restomod 8

Ducati 250 ‘Dirty Diana’ by Union Motorcycle Classics

In a world of shiny restomods, Union Motorcycle Classics decided to embrace the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi. ‘Dirty Diana’ is a 1965 Ducati 250 single that wears its history with pride. Mike Watanabe and Luke Ransom went to great lengths to source parts that already had an authentic patina, including an original-paint ‘Diana’ tank and a modified red fender from eBay.

While the engine and carb were rebuilt for modern reliability, the aesthetic remains gloriously weathered. The shop even aged a new fiberglass rear fender to match the 60-year-old finish of the tank. More than just a pretty (and dusty) face, the bike was used as a sweepstakes prize to benefit underprivileged children in Thailand and Cambodia, doubling down on their doing good philosophy. [MORE]

Brat style Honda CBX250 Twister by Karma Motocicletas

Honda CBX250 Twister by Karma Motocicletas

Rounding out the list is a humble 2005 Honda Twister from Argentina, transformed into a Brat-style city carver by Mauricio Martínez. Mauricio looked to Japan’s Go Takamine for inspiration, stripping the commuter bike of its ‘funky’ 2000s bodywork in favor of a Suzuki GN125 tank and a skinny tuck-and-roll seat.

The mono-shock rear end was deleted in favor of a traditional twin-shock setup, and the wheels were swapped for Morris-style hoops from a Kawasaki KZ440. Finished in a playful turquoise with gold striping, this build makes a compelling case for the custom potential of boring commuter bikes. It’s unpretentious, perfectly balanced, and proof that style doesn’t always require a massive displacement. [MORE]
