OZZY OSBOURNE Remembered By The WWE As A Heavy Metal & Sports Entertainment Icon

The world of music and sports entertainment is mourning the loss of a true original. Following the passing of legendary rock frontman Ozzy Osbourne, WWE has issued a heartfelt tribute recognizing the heavy metal icon’s deep and lasting impact not only on music, but also on the WWE Universe.

“WWE is saddened to learn that music icon and WWE Hall of Famer Ozzy Osbourne has passed away. Osbourne burst onto the music scene in the 1970s as the frontman of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band Black Sabbath, whose legendary tune ‘War Pigs’ has served as the theme for NXT TakeOver: WarGames and Survivor Series: WarGames.

“After eight incredible albums with Sabbath, Ozzy embarked on a solo career that catapulted him into superstardom. Songs like ‘Crazy Train,’ ‘Mr. Crowley,’ and ‘Bark at the Moon’ remain some of heavy metal’s most enduring anthems to this day.

“Along the way, Osbourne made several stops into the WWE Universe. His first came on The Grandest Stage of Them All, at WrestleMania 2, when he joined forces with Captain Lou Albano to manage The British Bulldogs as they captured the World Tag Team Championships.

Ozzy returned several times in the 2000s, whether it was to perform his latest single or as the special guest host for a memorable edition of Monday Night Raw that featured a highly entertaining Superstar talent show – Raw’s Got Talent. A true legend in every aspect, Osbourne was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021. WWE extends its condolences to Osbourne‘s family, friends, and fans.”

Osbourne‘s relationship with WWE was emblematic of his genre-defying persona. With a career built on boundary-pushing performances and cultural reinvention, it made perfect sense for the Prince of Darkness to find common ground with the theatrical spectacle of professional wrestling.

His first WWE appearance, at WrestleMania 2 in 1986, introduced him to a new generation of fans. Flanked by the eccentric Captain Lou Albano, Osbourne supported The British Bulldogs in their quest for tag team gold, marking a crossover moment between rock and wrestling during an era when both were reaching new cultural heights.

Osbourne‘s connection to WWE only deepened in the years that followed. In 2009, he co-hosted an episode of Monday Night Raw with wife Sharon, delighting fans with Raw’s Got Talent — a tongue-in-cheek talent show featuring WWE Superstars showing off bizarre and hilarious skills. His appearances were always uniquely Ozzy: part rock god, part showman, part chaos — and always unforgettable.

In 2021, WWE honored Osbourne‘s legacy with an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, cementing his place among the few music icons to have officially joined its ranks. The honor was not only a recognition of his in-ring appearances, but also of his broader cultural influence, which resonated deeply within the world of sports entertainment.

Ozzy‘s music – thunderous, unrelenting, and iconic – found a fitting home in WWE, often underscoring the energy of high-stakes matches. Most notably, Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” became the anthem for WarGames, setting the tone for some of the most brutal and intense contests in WWE history.

The WWE Universe joins millions around the world in mourning the loss of a legend whose voice, vision, and wild spirit will echo forever.
